Praying in Cordoba is a short reflection from four Muslims who visited the Grand Mosque, now known as the Mosque-Cathedral in Cordoba, Spain.
A group of IHRC officers and advisors visited Cordoba in 2018. They share their reflections of visiting the so-called ‘Mosque-Cathedral’, a supposedly now secular space, but in which they find themselves unable to pray, whilst Catholics continue to use the space as a cathedral.
Situating their experiences in the history of the Conquest of Andalusia that resulted in Spanish Inquisition, and the murder and expulsion of Muslim and Jewish communities, they describe how historic injustices are felt until this day.
