In Memoriam: Aaron Varricchio

Some thoughts on the passing of a true gentleman, Aaron Varricchio

The news of Aaron’s passing was devastating for many of us who knew him.  Below are some of the tributes to him published on the IHRC website.  We all learned so much from Aaron, whose exemplary behaviour and kindness were inspirational.

I was blessed with the opportunity of working with him on campaigns and events at IHRC over some years in the late 2000s.  He was an artistic, creative, innovative, intelligent and dedicated colleague.  He worked on and often led on campaigns such as the campaign for the Uighurs, prisoners of faith including those at Guantanamo, Shaykh Faisal, and Imam Jamil among others detained unjustly by his hime country the US.  He also worked on all the Palestine campaigns.  Somewhere there is an Al-Jazeera ident that featured a protestor in London during Operation Cast Lead, climbing a wall to erect a Palestinian flag.  That was Aaron.  There is so much to say about this brother, but words cannot do him justice.

May Allah swt bless Aaron hereafter with his best blessings.

Fateha.
